Great Bardfield
The Historic village of Great Bardfield dates back to at least the 11th century and possibly earlier. Once famous for its annual horse fair, which ran from 1292 until the outbreak of the Great War, the village was famous for the group of Bardfield artists who moved here. Thousands of visitors used to attend the annual Open House Exhibitions of such artists as Rotherstein, Bawden and Ravilious.

The small, thriving and friendly village has an excellent local shop which sells most provisions including freshly baked bread, a butcher selling locally reared meat as well as two pubs which serve a wide menu. The local church, St Mary's, has one of only two stone Rood screens in the country and there is even a local vineyard which conduct tours and offer the chance to buy award-winning wines.

Surrounding this farming village are scores of public footpaths and bridal ways, most through open unspoilt countryside that has been farmed for hundreds of years.
